"Hang on Sloopy" is the state’s official rock song, "Beautiful Ohio" is the state song, now legislation could give Ohio an official country song.
It took Zach Paxson just fifteen minutes to pen the lyrics to his song "Ohio." The country singer wrote the piece in 2006 on his way back from Austin, Texas where he watched the Ohio State Buckeyes defeat the Texas Longhorns.
He said he was blown away by the amount of people from Ohio that traveled to see the team.
"It was amazing. There were Buckeye fans everywhere. It was the first time I felt this sense of Ohio pride that far away from home," said singer Zach Paxson.
The song caught on with fans and at a charity event a state representative hear the tune and wrote legislation, House Bill 330, to make it Ohio’s official country song.
"I was able to play at the State House and pass the first committee unanimously," explained Paxson. "It’s been about a year now that it’s been going on, but it’s been fun."
