U.S. Representative for the Ohio Sixth District, Bill Johnson stopped into our studios to talk about the latest initiatives being passed by congress.

Johnson says that the use of energy and natural resources in a growing conversation, he says he is making sure that local communities are reimbursed for their resource rich land through the Using our Energy to Build Better Communities Act.

" We have the Wayne National Forest hear in Ohio, for example and when they drill for gas and produce energy on those lands we want 20 % of that revenue right off the top to go back to those local communities," said Johnson.

He says the money can be used towards, education, infrastructure and overall improvements. Johnson says another initiative he recently passed was "the Preventing Government Waste and Protecting Coal Mining Jobs in America Act to secure local jobs and an important energy source.

" We have our livelihood. Thousands of people here in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio depend upon the coal industry for their lives," said Johnson.

The bill was passed with bipartisan support and Johnson says he hopes to work alongside democrats more in the future.
