A New Concord 7th grade student has made in to the semi finals in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
12-year-old Harry Harmon is a student at East Muskingum Middle School and is moving forward in the event. So far Harmon has spelled correctly "apartheid" and "veloute" in the first and second rounds.
Harry has an affinity for music and, in addition to possessing perfect pitch, he composes songs and plays both the saxophone and the piano. His love of music is even reflected in his favorite movie Forrest Gump, an Academy Award nominee for Best Original Score. When not playing music, Harry can be found participating in both musical theater and the Boy Scouts of America.
Harry’s other passion is sports: he loves watching SportsCenter and rooting for any team from Pittsburgh. In fact, his favorite athlete, Mario Lemieux, is a former Pittsburgh Penguin.
The semi finals are Thursday at 10 am on ESPN 2. The finals are Thursday at 8 pm on ESPN. Good Luck Harry!
