Three area counties rank in the top ten for spring wild turkey harvests.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says Ohio hunters checked in over 16,000 wild turkeys during the wild turkey hunting season and youth hunting season that ran from mid-April to May 19.

The numbers are down slightly from 2013 when over 18,000 turkey’s were harvested.

In our area Coshocton County came in third in the state with 480 birds taken in. Guernsey County was fourth with 466 birds and Muskingum County fifth with 453 turkeys harvested.

Ashtabula led the state with over 600 turkey’s killed. While Meigs County finishes in tenth with over 390 birds.

The following are numbers for other counties in our area:

  • Fairfield 66
  • Licking 337
  • Morgan 277
  • Noble 292
  • Perry 255

Spring turkey hunting opened statewide in 2000 where hunters checked in more than 20,000 wild turkeys.
