Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz is releasing more details from a fatal accident Sunday night.

The Muskingum County Sheriffs Department received a call just after 8pm concerning an accident on Frazeysburg Rd. in the 9200 block near Fulton Lane. The driver, 27 year old Jayjuan Sherrell, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, 19 year old Mariah Swingle suffered serious injures.

"She was transported by the Dresden Emergency Squad into Genesis. They were going to attempt to fly her out, but the weather was getting worse and they could not do that," said Sheriff Lutz.

Sheriff Lutz says the two from the Zanesville area most likely wrecked due to excessive speed. Several statements from motorists leading up to the accident have been taken. Swingle was transferred to a hospital in Columbus for further treatment to her injuries.

"From the reports I’m getting," stated Lutz, "the major concern right now is the internal bleeding and trying to get it stopped. So I’m not necessarily sure what all is wrong but she is in very critical condition. As I said they flew her to Columbus. But she’s in very bad shape right now."

The accident remains under investigation.
