Tri-Valley Color Guard Hosts Car Wash

It may be a holiday weekend, but members of the Tri-Valley Color Guard were still hard at work Saturday afternoon.

The color guard hosted a car wash at the AutoZone on Maple Avenue to help raise funds to send the girls to band camp and also to help with the costs of new uniforms and flags.

"It’s expensive to run our program, so the girls are doing a car wash," said Katie McMullen, Tri-Valley’s color guard instructor.  "We’re doing really well today.  I’m very impressed with them, and they’re having a blast.  They keep spraying each other with the water."

The color guard raised $540 at their Memorial Day car wash last year, and McMullen hoped to surpass that at this year’s event.  Junior Mykaela Davis said she’s thankful to have such great support from the community to help fund the program.

"I’ve been in color guard for three years, and we’ve always had an outstanding program," Davis said.  "We always raise money.  It’s very tough to fork out how much money we have to pay for band camp."

The color guard did not set a price for the car wash, but took donations from their customers.  They plan to hold at least one car wash per month throughout the summer with their next one happening on June 7 at O’Reilly Auto Parts.
