Zanesville Hosts Third Annual Heart Chase

Over 200 people gathered at Zane’s Landing Park on Saturday to raise money and awareness for heart health.

The third annual Zanesville Heart Chase began at the park and weaved its way downtown as teams competed through 10 different stations, all for a good cause.

"Heart Association is really trying to increase the level of awareness of heart disease and what people can do throughout the year, not just one time a year, to think about their health and how to stay fit," said Cindy Baker, co-chairperson of Zanesville’s Heart Chase.  "The whole concept is different than the traditional heart walk of years gone by. This is really an interactive, engaging event where people can really learn a lot about what to do about disease and preventing it."

The event raised over $27,000 last year, and Baker expects a similar amount to come from this year’s outing.  While the money helps greatly in research, Baker says the main goal of the event is to have fun while educating area residents of heart healthy habits.

"There’s probably not anybody in this community who hasn’t been touched by heart disease in some way, whether it’s been just atrial fib or you have somebody that’s had an actual stroke or a heart attack," Baker said.  "The signs and symptoms, obviously, everybody needs to be aware of."
