The community support for an area girl injured in a motorcycle accident last month continues to build.

After a successful poker run that saw over 100 bikes turn out to help the Mariah Swingle Benefit Fund on Saturday, well over 100 showed up at the Fieldhouse Event Center for yet another benefit on Sunday. In addition to food and music, there were a variety of items to bid on in live, silent, and Chinese auctions.

"We asked for some donations from local businesses," said Monica Batteiger, Mariah’s cousin. "We had a few runners out there getting donations, and we were just totally overwhelmed with the amount of generosity from the community."

NBA star and Zanesville native Kevin Martin donated an autographed ball and shoes as well as four tickets to see him play in Cleveland. Batteiger said Mariah appreciates all the support, and they hope to have her be a part of these events soon.

"She hasn’t gotten the chance to actually see the people. She sees it in numbers, and she sees it on Facebook, but she hasn’t actually gotten to be a part of anything quite yet. Hopefully soon she will, and she’ll get to see all the support that we are. We’re very blessed with the community’s support."

Batteiger said Mariah has been released to partake in physical therapy. She could even get to start walking later this week.
