An area fire department wants you to help them be a "winner winner" by purchasing a chicken dinner.
The Falls Township Fire Department is gearing up for their largest fundraiser of the year this Sunday. For seven dollars, you can purchase your meal ticket and help support the department.
"On Father’s Day, Sunday the 15th, we have our annual chicken barbeque," said the fire department’s Jacob Waltemire. "We’ve been doing this since 1965, making this the 49th year we’ve done it. The barbeque includes a half a chicken, coleslaw, applesauce, a roll, and a drink."
Tickets are currently on sale at all three Falls Township fire departments. Over $4,000 were raised at the barbeque last year, and the department was able to use that money to purchase a thermal imaging camera. While Waltemire said that they hope to surpass the $4,000 mark this year, the real reason for the event isn’t necessarily the money.
"It’s a great way for us to connect to the community, and that’s really the main reason we do it," he said. "It’s the biggest PR event we do every year. We get good outreach from the community on Father’s Day which is a big family event, so it’s our family connecting with theirs."
The chicken will be available for dine-in or carryout at stations one and three and carryout only at station two. Presale is recommended, but the meals will also be available on a first come, first serve basis from 11 a.m. until they are sold out.
