Lorena Sternwheeler Begins Rides

Zanesville’s famed Lorena Sternwheeler is set to be rolling on the river again beginning this weekend.

Kelly Ashby with the Chamber of Commerce said the 70 passenger boat has been a staple of Muskingum County for well over 60 years. In addition to a nice hour long cruise, your ticket to ride comes with plenty of other perks as well.

"This weekend, riding on Saturday, you will get a free crock from Ohio Pottery, and on Sunday is Bloomer Candy," Ashby said.  "So throughout the season, there are also some fun things. There’s a story time on one of the rides this season, lots of coupons, and lots of free admissions to museums."

Public rides operate at both 2 p.m. 3:30 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. Passengers will be able to enjoy other specialty rides as the summer progresses.

"Throughout the season there are twilight cruises, lunch cruises, also dinner cruises, and a Civil War reenactment will be taking place in August as well," Ashby said.  "So there’s lots of great ways to enjoy the Lorena Sternwheeler and enjoy a cruise on the Muskingum River."

Tickets for the Sternwheeler run $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $4 for children. The Lorena is moored at Zane’s Landing Park at the west end of Market Street. For more information or to charter your own cruise, you can call 740-455-8282.
