The Military Families Support Group of Zanesville and Muskingum County formally introduced an ongoing project that will be displayed at the John McIntire Library.

On Monday they unveiled the Veteran’s Memorial Project to the public. It took four years of research to compile the eight binder series. Each one includes local history of area veterans.

"It consists of binders that have the obituaries of our veterans that have passed on from Muskingum, Perry, Morgan and some from Licking county. We wanted to honor them in this special way and each service binder has information about that branch of service, " said Aleta Smidt, MFSG Secretary.

Local veterans who had the chance to view the project say it’s nice to receive recognition from such dedicated supporters.

" I think it’s just wonderful," said David Schroder, Commander of the Zanesville chapter of the DAV. The years of that she has put into accumulating all of these articles and arranging them and it’s just amazing. There are stories in there that people didn’t read the first time or have forgotten. "

The binders are kept in a book shelf and will be on display until this November in the reference department of the library.
