With school out for the summer, many youth in the Zanesville area will be looking for summer employment.

Ohio Means Jobs of Muskingum County is currently seeking applications for their Summer Youth Program. This program is designed to give area youth a chance to work over break, all while earning money and valuable jobs skills. Julie Metzger, supervisor of Ohio Means Jobs told us that there is a special need for applications in the 18 to 24 age range.

"We need kids ages 18 through 24, preferably they have their drivers license. They may possibly be able to gain a CDL Licensure through there. We also have some maintenance, some light equipment positions and also some factory that we can place them in for the summer."

Metzger shared that it’s not so much a shortage of applications in this age group, but rather individuals not taking advantage of the program.

"A lot of times, the 18 to 24 year olds already are employed. So they have a summertime job, they may be going to college and are home, or they’ve worked the same summer job for many summers. So they are employed, and it detours them a little bit away from our program."
