Road Issues at Eastpointe

A slip is forming on a roadway in the Eastpointe Industrial Park and its causing concerns for the Port Authority.

Port Authority Executive Director Mike Jacoby said a noticeable dip has appeared in the asphalt and a small crack is forming because the road was built on fill soil. The hope is to correct the problem before it becomes a larger one.

"We think it’s still moving," said Jacoby. "It looks like there’s another crack developing and it’s going to need attention at some point."

Jacoby said he plans to meet with the Eastpointe JEDD Maintenance Committee to discuss how to pay for the project. The county, City of Zanesville and Washington Township all pay into the JEDD to maintain the industrial park.

"We had expected to give them money back this year," explained Jacoby. "This has the potential to be something where we aren’t going to give them money back and may need to take on debt and then pay the balance off next year."

Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis has recommended a company to come in and look at the slip. The company uses anchor rods driven into the soil to hold it in place. Until the company looks into the extent of the damage the cost is unknown.
