On Tuesday evening the search for two missing bodies in the Muskingum River concluded for the day.
According the the Zanesville Police and Fire Departments around 4 p.m. authorities received a 911 call that two people were spotted floating down river near Muddy Misers Restaurant. On further investigation, they began to search for the missing individuals near Putnam Landing Park.
"We came across the bridge and we came here to park and we called for Falls Township, South Zanesville and Harrison Township with their boats to help us in the search," said Assistant Chief, Chad Janes.
Officials are deliberating possible causes for the incident, but as of now have no concrete answers. Janes says the temperature of water, the strength of the current and the direction of the wind can alter the paths of the bodies. He says there are possible clues floating in the water.
" We have found some debris, but whether that’s from the hard winter we have had with all the boat docks and boats that got destroyed over the winter or if that had something to do with this incident we are not for sure yet. We are trying to get as much info as we can, " said Janes.
One of the bodies is suspected to be that of a white male and they are still unsure of the sex of the other. The search ended as soon as it became too dark to continue and will resume sometime on Wednesday morning.
