Wienen Wins Briarcliff ATV National

Coming off a disappointing second-place finish at his home track two weeks ago, Chad Wienen came to Briarcliff MX in Nashport with a chip on his shoulder.

It showed.

The Illinois native won both motos and easily captured first place at the Built Ford Tough Briarcliff ATV National, putting the 29-year-old in prime position to win the Mountain Dew ATV Motocross National Championship for the third year in a row.

"I made some quick passes today and rode a little more aggressive," Wienen said. "I (have) to really go after the Championship and take what I believe is mine."

Rounding out the podium were Joel Hetrick in second place and Wienen’s teammate, Thomas Brown, in third. Louisville, Ohio native Josh Upperman, who took second place in the first moto but dropped to fifth in the second race, settled for fourth place.

As the Championship officially passed its midway point on the season, Wienen knows he can’t slow down anytime soon.

"I’ve got (the other riders) on the run so I’ve got to keep pouring it on and keep getting stronger and stronger every single weekend," he said.

Next up for Wienen and the rest of the pack is the Spring Creek National in Minnesota on June 28.
