Secrest Auditorium came alive with music Sunday night as the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band kicked off its 2014 summer concert series.

In addition to the concert band, an honor band made up of 60 area high school students also joined in the second half of the show to play a variety of tunes including a James Bond medley. The concert was the first of five that will be available for free to the public this year.

"I’m just real appreciative of all the support we’re getting from the community, both personal donations and corporate sponsors, so it really helps us bring this activity every year free of charge, and that’s our mission–to give free concerts," said Artistic Director Jeff Roquemore.

Roquemore also said concerts have been free since the band began over 91 years ago. If you missed Sunday’s show, you can catch the next one on June 22nd.

"That one’s going to be a children’s concert," Roquemore said.  "We have some costume characters going to be there and some dancing with the music from Frozen."

The next show will also feature music from Pirates of the Caribbean as well as face painting for kids and refreshments. All concerts this summer are scheduled to take place at Zane’s Landing Park with Secrest Auditorium serving as a backup in the event of inclement weather.
