Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville is in need of mentors for 70 children on their waiting list.

The donor driven youth mentoring organization works to match area children, ages 6 to 17 with volunteers who will serve as a mentor for the younger child. Your job as a mentor asks you to spend time with the child you are paired with and enjoy activities together. Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Mollie Crooks, says when you become a role model to these children, you better their lives.

Crooks said, "The importance of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring is the impact we have on children’s lives. We like to think that we are changing children’s lives for the better and forever. Specifically its found that the children matched with Big Brothers Big Sisters are more likely to resist negative behaviors."

As far as the mentoring process goes, Crooks says its a rewarding experience for you to take part in as well.

"In our business its really exciting when we do a match and I know when volunteers come into the program to serve as role models, they really are looking to make a difference in a child’s life and oftentimes what they find out is that child has made a huge difference in their life. I don’t think theres anything more rewarding than seeing a child grow and be successful."
