The Chamber of Commerce in Muskingum County took advantage of a great local product.

Five Barracuda Intruder Defense Systems were purchased for the office suites in the Muskingum County Welcome Center building. The product is designed to keep doors securely locked in the event of an active shooting situation. President of the Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, Tom Poorman says they purchased these devices to give the individuals working in the offices a sense of security, and to support the local inventor and manufacturer.

"We wanted to be supportive of what the incubator is doing, what Troy Lowe is doing as an inventor, what Bilco is doing as a manufacturer. We wanted to be supportive. Plus in a public building like ours, there is a lot of practical application for this product. We hope we never need it, but if we do, we’ll have it and that’s a good feeling."

The defense system is made of steel, is lightweight, and is quick and simple enough for anyone to install. Poorman says with the recent need for these security systems, he anticipates a lot of local and even national interest.

"I have to believe that people are going to see the value in it. They’re getting lots of inquiries already I know. I’m sure thats going to turn into orders here very shortly and we’re really optimistic that this product is going to go big."

The Barracuda Intruder Defense Systems run at $100 a piece. Poorman hopes that other local organizations will take advantage of purchasing it
