The summer humidity was no match for the chilly winter atmosphere at Zanes Landing Park this evening.
The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band held a Christmas In July concert for area residents today. Those who came got to enjoy popcorn, the sunshine and a taste of the December holiday. Artistic Director Jeff Roquemore says the performance featured a variety of different musical works.
"It’s a lot of different types of Christmas music, so it is a varied program. There’s a sing along, some jazz music in there. Theres some songs that are very familliar like Jingle Bells, and theres some that arent very familliar."
This was the first time introducing the Christmas in July theme, Roquemore said he hoped that it would go over well with listeners who attended.
"This is the first time we’ve ever done this so we hope it goes over well with our audience. We have a very loyal audience and hopefully they’ll like this and appreciate it."
The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band has been together for 91 seasons with their mission being to give free outdoor concerts in the Zanesville park system. The Memorial Band’s final concert will be August 3 at 7PM.
