Being in Ohio, you’ve no doubt noticed the sleek, silver Dodge Chargers driven by state troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol.  Now, the rest of the country is getting to have a look at them as well.

An online contest was recently held by the American Association of State Troopers to select the nation’s best looking cruiser.  When the final votes were tallied on Facebook, Ohio came out on top with nearly 22,000 "likes" of the buckeye state’s patrol car.

"We’re very happy with them," said Sgt. Kevin Kelly with the Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.  "For us, it’s a major increase in performance.  We went from 260 horsepower in the Crown Victoria to 370 horsepower in the Dodge Charger.  With that, we gained gas mileage.  So that’s a huge plus.  It helps us catch up with violators a little bit faster."

While horsepower and mileage help the troopers, it is the vehicle’s look that helped earn the votes of people throughout the nation.

"It’s nice," Sgt. Kelly said.  "During the daytime you really can’t see it, but all of this is reflective.  So you see everything at night time.  The yellows are nice and bright.  The silver is really bright.  It catches the headlights and such."

Neighboring West Virginia’s cruiser came in second in the contest.  For winning, a photo of Ohio’s Charger will be featured on the cover of the trooper association’s newsletter.
