Funding for Turn Lane

Traffic congestion on State Route 146 and Northpointe will be the past with the addition of a right hand turn lane.

The City of Zanesville received an almost $170,000 grant to put in the 600 foot turn lane from the State of Ohio. Zanesville City’ s Engineer said this project is much needed.

"It’s a congestion problem and when you have congestion you also have accidents that go along with that," said Engineer Chip Saunders. "We are trying to elevates that situation. There’s so much traffic that wants to turn right and with the signal backing up the way it does they can’t get around to make a right on red movement."

The project is estimated to cost $350,000. Saunders said they hope to put it out to bid this fall. Other issues must also be addressed before the project can move forward.

"We have to work with the telephone company to  move some buried facilities that are in their way," explained Saunders. "We have to get authorization through our City Council to spend the funds and we have to get the final plans ready to bid the project."

There were 35 applications submitted for $3.5 million in funding for the Transportation Improvement District state grants. This was the only project in our district to be submitted.
