There’s nothing like starting the school year off with new gear and some local organizations are joining together to make sure area kids step off the school year in style.
Eastside Community Ministry, Wendy’s and WHIZ are currently collecting shoes for this year’s Lace Up for Kids Campaign. The goal is to get 1,000 pairs of shoes for students in need.
The program chair at Eastside Community Ministry Sally Goins said that shoe sizes range from small school aged children all the way up to the largest size they’ve ever given 18 mens. She said this program’s a wonderful experience.
"If you came and saw their faces on the day they get them you wouldn’t even have to ask," said Goins. "It’s a wonderful thing to feel like you’re back to school with brand new shoes and you’re feeling just as great as can be."
New this year Wendy’s is selling up to 6,000 key tags that will get you a free sweet treat at any Wendy’s with a purchase.
"It’s simply a key tag you can put on your key chain and they cost $1," said Wendy’s Owner Tim Thompson. "100 percent of the proceeds go towards the purchase of sneakers for the children and with this key tag you receive a free junior Frosty every time you come through Wendy’s for the next six months."
If you would like to donate shoes you can drop them off at any Wendy’s location, Eastside Community Ministry and WHIZ. Monetary donations can be sent to Wendy’s at 947 Adair Avenue, Zanesville, OH 43701 or Eastside at PO Box 965 221 Stillwell Street
Zanesville OH 43702-0965.
Sign up for the shoes will take place July 14-17 and July 21-24 at Eastside. This is the 26th year for the event.
