If you enjoy history and learning about the Civil War, the Zanesville-Muskingum County Convention and Visitors Bureau is planning a fun event just for you.

The 2nd annual Lorena Sternwheeler Civil War Reenactment will take place August 8th and 9th on the Muskingum River. Uniformed troops will be aboard the Lorena and along the riverbank putting on a show for the passengers to enjoy.

"There will be fun interaction back and forth between the troops that are on the Lorena, and a cannon on the Lorena, firing back and forth with those that are along the riverbank," said Kelly Ashby with the Chamber of Commerce.

While some of the sights and sounds will be familiar to those who attended last year’s event, Ashby said there are some new elements for this year as well.

"New this year, Governor William Dennison will be aboard the Lorena on Saturday, so he will be there for all four rides. And also something new this year is a Civil War surgeon. There will be a surgical tent set up at Zane’s Landing Park."

Tickets for the rides cost $12 and must be purchased in advance. Space is limited to the first 50 reservations per ride. To get your tickets, you can go to www.visitzanesville.com, or you can call the visitor’s bureau at 740-455-8282.
