The Animal Shelter Society in Muskingum County wants to invite you out to support their organization.

The first ever Paws and Claws Summer Jam Cornhole Tournament will take place on August 13th from 10AM to 5PM at Zane’s Landing Park. The event will allow people to take part in a cornhole tournament at $20 a team. 20 teams will be allowed to partake. There will be payouts to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries. Beer, pizza and other refreshments will also be provided. Local band Double Cut will provide country music. Rescue Coordinator Charity Stevens says all money raised goes to a great cause.

"All the proceeds come to the shelter so we’re hoping we have a big crowd and maybe we can do it annually. This is going to be our first one to give it a go so hopefully we have a great turnout."

Stevens said these events are very important to the organization. The funds raised at events such as the upcoming cornhole tournament allow the shelter to continue doing their good work.

"We are a non profit so we get no financial money from the government, county, state. We are all based on donations only. So thats why its so important for us to have fundraisers and different things to get the community involved to help keep our shelter running."

You are also encouranged to take part in an adoption event Saturday. It will be held at Petsmart from 12PM to 3PM.
