Family, friends, law enforcement and community members gathered today to remember the late Lieutenant Mike Lutz.
A ceremony was held at Cornerstone Church in Duncan Falls this morning followed by a procession to the gravesite of Lutz where a gun salute and a presentation of the colors was held to memorialize the Lieutenant. It marked the twentieth anniversary of his passing. Lieutenant Mark Ross, who served along side Mike Lutz, said the day is all about celebrating the life and legacy of Lieutenant Lutz.
"To remember Mike, and what he stands for, it’s a great thing…It’s an American thing," said Ross.
Sheriff Matt Lutz, Mike’s son, said this kind of event is what they want to see for all officers of law enforcement who have given their lives for others. He also stated his appreciation for the community members who helped to make today possible.
"Just thanks, this is a lot.. I’ve been apart of these and it takes a lot of time and a lot of effort to do that and it’s just a total tribute to him and so the family really appreciates it, " said Lutz.
Many members of law enforcement lay their lives on the line for the betterment of the community they serve and today was a representation of the lasting significance of those sacrifices.
