School Supplies Offered to Kindergarten Students

With school now less than a month away, it’s time to start thinking about getting children the supplies they need.

For students entering kindergarten, Muskingum Families and Children First is offering an event to help.

"We have several agencies that have come together to put this event on," said Thasia Schilling, a coordinator with Muskingum Families and Children First. "They provide supplies and activities to make this event a lot of fun."

From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, backpacks filled with school supplies will be available to any Muskingum County child entering kindergarten — free of charge.  The event will take place at the Zane State / OUZ campus center.  In addition to getting the supplies, students and their parents will also have a chance to meet several representatives from their school.

"All the cheerleaders from the schools come, their mascots, all those superintendents are there to meet all the children as they check in as well as the principals, and the kindergarten teachers are there," Schilling said. "We have games, and Sparky the fire dog participates."

Parents can also receive a printout of their child’s immunization record at the event.  If you have any questions, you can call Muskingum County Familes and Children First at 740-454-9908.
