Boost the Local Economy by Shopping

Boost the Local Economy by Shopping

One of the easiest ways to boost the local economy is to shop locally, and a new E-magazine published by the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce will help you do just that.

The 650 local businesses registered with the chamber are listed in the E-magazine, catagorized by industry and product. Chamber president, Tom Poorman explains what shopping locally does for the economy.

"If you can get the same quality, the same price, the same selection here locally there is no reason not to do it. It puts money back into the community, it supports the local tax base and it supports the public services we all receive, from decent roads to law enforcement and it creates jobs. "

With more than forty thousand people working in Muskingum County these consumer and business to business purchases are vital to the payroll of the county. Buying locally also has some personal benefits as well.

"You can eliminate shipping, you can eliminate travel, you can get a price that’s very competitive, very comparable to what you are going to get, weather it’s Columbus or through or what have you. We all do those things from time to time and that’s okay, you might find a great deal. But you are going to find a great deal in the local area too without all the hassle of traffic in Columbus ot shipping from Amazon. Or what have you," said Poorman.
