Crossing the Finish Line

Our three month fitness challenge has come to a close. Since the beginning of June members of the WHIZ staff and Muskingum Recreation Center have worked to see who can become more fit. Friday, I found out if I rose to the challenge.

Going into this venture I had two goals: lose weight and get in shape. I’m proud to say after taking my post fitness assessment I improved 30 points. Okay, so I wasn’t at the top of the WHIZ team, I didn’t lose as much as I wanted, but it’s a start.

"It was great to see you all in here working out and it was great to see the transformation that a lot of you guys have made," said Brooke Smith health and special populations coordinator. "Now that we’re doing the post tests and actually seeing the hard work and the effort that was put into it create great results."

If you remember back to our pre-fitness assessment we had to complete a reach test, see how many sit-ups we could do in a minute, do as many push-ups as we could, measure our weight and body mass index and complete a three minute step test. I didn’t complete the step test the first time…but not today.

"When you guys have come in to do your post test and you’ve seen the results it’s more motivating to continue doing the active lifestyle and changing your habits," said Smith.

To keep up with our new healthier lifestyle Smith said it’s good to change up our routines to avoid boredom.

"If you’ve been into the same routine for awhile you might want to switch it up, try some interval training, try some circuit training, if they’ve been doing some of the group exercise classes, try some different ones."

It also keeps our bodies from getting used to the routine and pushes them to another level. If you’ve been working out with us these three months, Congratulations! We made it to the finish line.
