Area communities are taking part in a program to raise awareness about drinking and driving.

The kick off for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign took place in the New Lexington Kroger parking lot at noon Friday. It runs from August 15th to September 1st. Perry County Safe Communities Coordinator, Corlyn Altier says that the event was held to raise awareness.

"We just want everybody in the area to know that law enforcement will be out in full force. There is federal overtime authorized and the objective is to keep people in Perry County safe."

A vehicle that was involved in a DUI crash over the winter is on display for the public to see until Monday.  Highway Patrol Lieutenant Shad Caplinger says that events like these make law enforcement easier.

"All of the folks that work together to try to resolve these things and to assist folks in to making good decisions, and making our roadways safer, we do appreciate all those partnerships."
