Ice Bucket Challenge for Dr. Charles Hawkins

If jumping in the pool isn’t for you maybe dumping a bucket of ice water over your head can help you cool off and help A.L.S. research at the same time.

Earlier today Doctor Charles Hawkins D.D.S and his employees at his dental office in South Zanesville took on the A.L.S. Ice Bucket Challenge. We spoke with Hawkins about his experiences with this disease.

"Me and my staff wanted to do it because my dad had A.L.S. and he passed away from it. It was something very very personal for me. "

Hawkins’s dad passed away in 1980 and that gave him the motivation to complete the challenge. He said he is sitting down to discuss how much money he can donate to A.L.S. research and does not have an amount yet, but he is working on coming up with a goal amount to reach.

"I’m just very very proud to be apart of this because it is just a devastating disease. I’ve seen it first hand as a kid."

As of yesterday the A.L.S. association has received over $94 million in donations since July 29. That’s an increase in $92 million from the same time frame last year.
