Fall is coming fast and that means school is just around the corner. Today many local agencies and schools welcomed kindergarteners with a bookbag and supplies to start off on the right foot.
The Kindergarten Supplies event gave away bookbags and school supplies at the Ohio University -Zane State campus to all Muskingum County children registered for kindergarten for this school year.
Coordinator Thasia Schilling said today was made possible because of the community coming together to help the students get the supplies they need.
"There’s so many people, so many people behind the scenes as well that donated funds to make this event a success," said Schilling.
The event featured super intendents and other members of the school system as well as local agencies from the community. While at the event, children had the chance to see a school bus, sit inside a fire truck, and even meet their school’s mascot and cheerleaders.
Schilling said it’s important to keep events like these going for the people in our area.
"Well right now everybody’s struggling, you know," said Schilling. The recession isn’t supposed to be one of the big things right now, but we are still struggling and overcoming."
The kindergarten supplies event celebrated it’s 7th year today and they look forward to growing the event in the coming years.
