A man was rescued from the Muskingum River Wednesday afternoon.

The call came at around 5:15PM when someone spotted the man floating in the river. Zanesville Fire Department Lieutenant, Doug Hobson says they pulled him from the water just in time.

"There was a gentleman in the river. Approximately right below the Y Bridge floating in the middle of the river. So of course we responded with Engine 2, Engine 1 and our Rescue Boat. Our Engine 2 spotted him from the 6th Street Bridge and was able to keep in contact with us and let us know where he was. They threw a rope to him and he couldn’t get a hold of it. By the time we got to the gentleman he was below the 6th Street Bridge bobbing up and down so it was a good save today."

The name of the victim has not been released but he is thought to be in his 50’s. Hobson says he didn’t appear to have any injuries, but was transported to Genesis for precautionary measures.

"He said he had fallen down the river bank by the old white chevrolet. Tried to get to the side of the bank several times. He quoted, ‘like 150 times it seemed like’ to him. But he was just unsuccessful and by the time we had made it to him he was just wore out. "

The Zanesville Fire Department, Police Department, and Genesis Community Ambulance all responded to the scene.
