Members of the Noon Rotary Club of Zanesville got to learn about food while eating food at their weekly meeting at Bryan Place Tuesday.
Sally Ellis, a board member at Pearl Valley Cheese, addressed the group and talked a little bit about her family’s business.
"My grandma and grandpa started it in 1928," Ellis said. "They came from Switzerland, and they actually wanted to be dairy farmers. They didn’t have enough money to do that at first, so they bought a little tiny place and started growing and growing."
The company is still going strong 86 years later. Located in Fresno, just north of Coshocton, Pearl Valley currently produces 13 different kinds of cheese which they sell in many locations on this side of the Mississippi.
"We have an amazing group of dairy farmers that supply us milk," Ellis said. "We also make about 20,000 pounds of cheese every day, so we like people to eat cheese. And we have the best employees in the area, bar none."
Ellis said she encourages everyone to come up and visit, and tours are available.
