Two cars were involved in an injury accident this afternoon at the corner of State Route 60 and Lawhead Lane.
The State Highway Patrol, Wayne Township Fire Department and the Newton Township EMS responded to the scene. A blue Nissan Rouge and a green Pontiac Gran Prix collided shortly before noon. Sergeant Chuck Merryman with the State Highway Patrol detailed the events.
According to Merryman, "The Nissan slowed down to turn left onto Lawhead Lane. The Grand Prix just simply couldn’t stop in time and struck the Nissan in the rear end."
Neither of the cars had passengers at the time of the accident, but both drivers were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Merryman says that the injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Sergeant merryman says the accident is under investigation.
"Our officers still need to go to the hospital and talk to the driver who we feel is at fault at this point, but the way the preliminary investigation looks that the driver will more than likely be cited for an assured clear distance violation."
Traffic was restricted to one lane each way as crews attended to the scene.
