The Muskingum County Juvenile Court is hoping they can make some upgrades.

Earlier today director of court services Bob Smith met with county commissioners to discuss a one-time grant opportunity that requires the commissioners to be a partner for 50% of a $10,000 grant.

"Yes, we had a unique grant opportunity. Normally our grants are for programming and services, but we have an opportunity to apply for a small grant that would allow us to purchase equipment and supplies for the detention center."

The grant would be given by the Department of Youth Services which is provided through federal funding. The money would allow the detention center to make updates to some of their equipment.

"We want to purchase some DVD’s for the camera system that is operable in the detention center, we want to purchase some wands for security purposes as people come into the facility. We also want to upgrade some of the show facilities back in the detention area where the residents are."

The commissioners are discussing the grant and will have a final decision for the juvenile court by their deadline which is November 24.
