Halloween is right around the corner and Colony Square Mall is teaming up with United Way to say "Boo!" to hunger.
The event in conjunction with the mall’s trick-or-treat will be held on Thursday, October 30th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
"We’re asking families to come out and trick-or-treat with our retailers to bring a canned food or a non-perishable food item to donate to the food pantry."
Kevin Pinson said the mall considers itself a community center as well as a retail spot and wants to do its part to help the needy members of the community. This partnership with United Way allows them to do just that.
"The food pantries are really struggling, they’ve got more demand. They need more supplies, more food to help feed the needy and this is just a great way to get families to pitch in and help out."
Pinson said although trick-or-treat is for kids 12 and under, United Way will have collection bins at the mall during business hours for those people who aren’t participating in trick-or-treat that night but would still like to donate.
