If the rain’s stifling your holiday spirit, perhaps a visit to the animal shelter will help get you back into the swing of things.

Earlier today the animal shelter was decorated with Christmas trees, stockings, and more festive holiday décor for its holiday open house.

"You see decorations and things, we’re trying to get into the Christmas spirit. Primary objective today is to get folks to come in, see the shelter just walk through, see some of our updates. We have some other things going on some crafts for kids, pets, and of course you can’t have an open house without cookies and punch," said the animal shelter’s Executive Director, Jody Murray.

Those who did adopt today received a special gift from Santa’s hat of ten, twenty, or thirty dollars off their adoption fee.

Murray stated, "Pet’s become part of your life, it’s a long term commitment and there have been all kinds of studies that show that pets can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and they just become part of your family. That’s a great thing, but we also have lots of homeless animals in our area and it’s just a great way to help them."

To learn more about how you can help these furry friends find homes, or to take one home yourself you can visit the animal shelter’s website www.Animalsheltersociety.org.
