27 hard working students have been selected for the Martin Luther King Jr. Book Scholarship and will be recognized at this year’s Prayer Breakfast.
The selected students are individuals who excel academically and are involved within the community throughout the Muskingum County area. One student in particular is senior, Kate Bass, from John Glenn High School who has plans to attend Austin College in Sherman, Texas this fall. Kate says the $500 book scholarship will help her out in many ways.
“It’s really helpful, because I mean, books are really expensive and so, as much scholarship money as you can get it’s just all really helpful, so it’s good.”
Kate says she’s excited to start her college studies in a new location, but is looking forward to meeting other local minority students at the prayer breakfast first.
“I think it’ll be cool just because so many times there’s not a lot of minorities in the area schools. So it’ll be kind of cool to all meet up and get to know everybody from the area schools and get to talk and talk about our experiences and stuff.”
The Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast will be held Monday, January 19 at 9 A.M. At the North Terrace Church of Christ.
