The summer months always brings an increase for tourism, and Ohio is dealing with competition from surrounding states.

The competition isn’t only on a national level, but local level as well. Muskingum County has been in competition with surrounding counties as well. Vice President of the Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, Kelly Ashby, told us the efforts they are using to keep tourism in the area.

“We attend trade shows, we do marketing materials, we do direct mail, we have a ‘’ website, we also do a lot of social media to get the word out about Zanesville, Muskingum County and all the great attractions that we have.”

Ashby encourages the public to promote the city to your friends and family members to draw more people to the area. Ashby explained the benefit of keeping tourism within the heart of Zanesville.

“It is a huge economic impact on the community, the tourist dollars that come in to any community has a great economic impact which also has a trickle down effect that also effects other industries in the area as well so when you think of tourism, it’s not only just the attractions or the museums its also the gas stations, the restaurants, the hotels.”

Ashby encourages you to make a visit to the Welcome Center and pick up a tourist guide. If you are interested in learning more about tourist attractions within the county, you are asked to visit the website
