An investigation continues into a single vehicle, fatal accident in Licking County.
According to the Granville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:24 a.m. Sunday. It happened when 81-year-old Richard Rodriguez of Columbus was heading southbound on S.R. 158 in Harrison Township in his 2015 Forest River Motor Home.
A press release from the State Patrol stated that the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway where it struck a guardrail face. After which, the vehicle traveled farther from the road and struck a traffic light support pole at the intersection of the Interstate 70 entrance ramp.
Rodriguez’s wife, 80-year-old Delores Harris-Rodriguez, was the only passenger at the time of the accident. She was unrestrained in the motor home, and the State Patrol said Mr. Rodriguez was not wearing a seatbelt.
West Licking EMS transported Mrs. Rodriguez to Grant Hospital and Mr. Rodriguez to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
