Zane’s Landing Park will feature a 12 hour ‘Rock on the River’ concert July 18.
The now empty hill and tent will fill with people and music for the day all in an effort to raise money for a local woman living with lung cancer.
"Mary is a local lady that lives here in town," said Organizer Gayle Gardner. "She’s been a part of the community for many years. She’s lived here all her life and she’s battling cancer so we’re trying to raise money to try to help her with her fight and just try to bring the community together with some entertainment and just try to do something for somebody that isn’t able to do for herself right now. "
Mary is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, but hopes to come out and see the community’s efforts come to life. Gardener said it will be a day of togetherness, rock music, and good eats and it’s about supporting someone in our town who needs our help.
"I do know it’s been a struggle for their family, financially, emotionally just like anybody else who goes through an illness so I felt like it was a calling for us to get together and just kind of pull together as a community," said Gardner.
The 11 bands will start at noon and the audience is encouraged to bring their own coolers and drinks for the day long benefit. If you can’t make it to the benefit, you can donate at Campbell’s in South Zanesville.
