Representatives from the Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center met with the Muskingum County Commissioners Monday to discuss the 2016 budget.
An increase in salary for employees was the main topic on the agenda. Detention Center Superintendent, Allen Bennett, said the increase would include a raise of $2 an hour. He talked to us about what’s next moving forward.
“They seemed receptive to it, they’ve asked us to provide some additional information, which we’ll do and kind of go from there,” Bennett said.
Commissioner, Jerry Lavy, said they will review the proposal and have a final budget completed by the end of the year.
“We’ll wait till the end of the year when we’ll see what our carry-over is, because obviously right now our budget is just shy of 32-million dollars for the county general fund, and our revenues are right around 26-million, so hopefully we’ll have a carry-over, that’s why we have to wait until the end of the year to determine what we’re going to have, where we have to make cuts, if we have to make cuts,” Lavy said.
Bennett said the recent turnover for employees at the detention center is 50 percent, due to pay.
