August is just around the corner and kids are on their way back to school.
Co-Chair for Tools for Schools Ellen Shaw said the cost of school supplies averages about $37.00 and some families in the local area struggle to prepare their children for the academic year due to lack of funds.
“We’re going to be doing 1,000 backpacks for over 400 needy families in Muskingum County and there really is a need and this community is so good about responding to the need,” said Shaw.
The third annual ‘Stuff the Bus’ event will take place in front of the Wal-Mart North tomorrow from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. They will accept both supply and monetary donations. Shaw said every donation helps them fill the 1,000 backpacks they will give out this year.
“We appreciate every little bit we get,” said Shaw. “We’ve had children that have come and dropped a box of 24 crayons into the basket, just a few spiral notebooks. We need glue sticks, like over two thousand glue sticks. ”
They are no longer accepting applications for Tools for Schools at this time.
