Artist of the Month: Charles Leasure

The First Friday Art Walk is fast approaching and the Artist Colony of Zanesville has named their featured Artist of the Month.

This month, the Artist Colony is featuring Charles Leasure, a wood and metal artist from the Zanesville area. Leasure told us more about how he got into this line of work.

"Most of the wood here is on my farm. It comes from my farm. There’s some metal work–there’s some metal work incorporated in with the wood." Said Leasure, "I come from a long line of blacksmiths. My grandfathers and great uncles and everyone were blacksmiths."

Leasure said he works with many different kinds of wood such as walnut, cherry, pine and even Cyprus from Tennessee. Leasure crafts them into many different works of art. Leasure told us more about what goes into making a piece.

"A piece like this table, there’s a lot of hand sanding. It’s a lot of hand work. It’s just a lot of sanding–sanding required which its fine." Said Leasure. "It’s nice to do. Its relaxing for me, anyway. I don’t have to do it for a living, I do it because I like to."

You can see and purchase Leasures art work at Gallery G II in the Masonic Temple Room 101. His work will be on display from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m..
