The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol is asking for citizens help in investigating an incident that took place at the park and ride at State Route 93 and US 22.
The Patrol said that a suspect entered the park and ride in a small dark colored hatch back type vehicle and attempted to steal gasoline from a parked truck. It’s believed the suspect possibly drilled a hole in the truck’s fuel tank to attempt to steal the gas, igniting a fire.
Just after 1pm, Tuesday, the suspect fled at a high rate of speed and came in contact with a possible witness, a young, white male, operating a full sized 4×4 truck. The truck entered the park and ride while the suspect was exiting.
Reports from others near the scene indicate the witness in the truck stopped at a service station to report the fire.
Troopers are requesting any assistance in identifying the witness in the truck or the suspect to call the Zanesville Post at (740) 453-0541.
The Washington Township Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the vehicles and the lot is now open for use.
