Christmas is over. But you can still give someone a gift. Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.
Tuesday Muskingum Valley Red Cross held a blood drive at Secrest Auditorium.
"It’s very helpful for us to have these special blood drives right after the holidays. To help increase our blood inventory because, it kind of falls off right around the holidays. People get so busy with all the baking, shopping, wrapping that has to happen. And blood donations doesn’t always fit into their schedule. We’re really happy that we have this opportunity for people to stop by and donate," said Red Cross Account Manager, Lori Gaitten.
Gaitten stressed the importance of donating.
"We have patients that need blood everyday. In our region we need to collect 650 units everyday. So that hospitals have what they need to transfuse to patients. We support 42 hospitals in our 27 county area region. Making sure that we have that daily collection. So their inventory level stays constant and even. They will never have to worry about where the next units going to come from," said Gaitten.
Red Cross will host another blood drive at Colony Square Mall Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
