The longtime Sheriff in Guernsey County has announced that he’s retiring. Sheriff Michael McCauley told Commissioners Wednesday that he is stepping down. He has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 38 years and became Sheriff in 2001. Capt. Jeff Paden has been named acting Sheriff and will serve out the last year of McCauley’s term and then will run for the office in November of 2016. Paden says the Guernsey County Democratic Party will convene in the next few weeks and appoint him to the position and it’s likely he will run unopposed. McCauley, who is 60-years-old, retires effective December 31st.
