Sgt. Jon McCoy with the Zanesville Police Department says the missing 10-year-old boy has been located and is safe.
McCoy says a friend of the family found the child in the woods in the Wayne Avenue area. Â He was cold, hungry and wet and had a few minor scrapes, but McCoy says he appeared to be in good health overall. Â The boy is being taken to Genesis Hospital as a precaution.
The Zanesville Police Department would like to thank the public for all of their help in this search.
Sgt. Jon McCoy says at 4:11 p.m. authorities received a call from the child’s foster home on Sunrise Avenue saying that the child was threatening suicide and wrapping a cord around his neck. The boy took off on foot on Hessler toward the woods in the Dillon Road area.
Officers and crews from the Zanesville Fire Department searched the woods and the area up to Dillon. McCoy says the child suffers from a disability that makes his mental capacity about that of a six-year-old.
