Authorities and a gas company are investigating a house explosion in Newcomerstown. There is now a report of one fatality from the incident Tuesday night. A police dispatcher on Wednesday referred all calls to the State Fire Marshall’s Office. Authorities say four fire crews responded to the explosion. A statement from Columbia Gas Company says the utility believes natural gas was involved but the utility was still investigating. The Superintendent of the Newcomerstown Exempted Village Schools District says classes were cancelled Wednesday due to debris on school property. Superintendent Jeff Staggs says the high school and elementary school near the house will need to be checked for any possible structural damage.
