ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A local school is preparing their students by making sure they are employable.
Wednesday Mid-East Career and Technology Centers held its 8th Annual Employability Expo. Students were able to speak to people in the career field they are currently studying. mid-east Coordinator of Business Partnership and Placement Shannon Kenily said this expo helps students understand exactly what employers are looking for.
“It’s a great opportunity for our students to ask questions and really network with the employers as well as our staff members. It’s been very successful. We have a lot of graduates come back every year and share their success stories, because they are now working in the field. Which is really exciting for our current students to see,” said Kenily.
Early Childhood Instructor Katie Lucas started preparing her students for this expo days in advance.
“One of the things you do when you enter the workforce is you have to sell yourself to the employer. I think this prepares them for the interview. And showcase the skills that they’ve learned while they were here at mid-east. Many of my students have went on to make connections through interviews and also through job shadowing. They have made that connection with the employer the day of the expo,” said Lucas.
Kenily said the employers and students both benefit from the employability expo.
